Researches Finally Answered the Controversy over Green Lip Mussels

There have been numerous controversies whether the concentrated nutrients in New Zealand’s green lip mussels truly have a beneficial result on such illnesses as inflammation. The positive news is that there are two recently accomplished studies seem to agree with the fact that green lip mussels offer health benefits to those who take it as a daily supplement and that the unique qualities of the extract suppress the enzymes which cause inflammation.

Two recent studies from Australia’s RMIT University were issued last year in The Journal of Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology. The findings astonished some negative critics while supporting the theories of other health proponents.

The first research focused on omega-3 fatty acids in extracts of the greenlip mussel (Perna canaliculus), which is found only in New Zealand. The omega-3s were found to inhibit the activity of leukotriene and cyclo-oxygenase, both substances which are associated with inflammation. This study tested levels of the two chemicals in vitro with greenlip mussel extracts formulated for both commercial and scientific purposes.

In another research, fatty acids from the green lipped mussel extract were separated. It was detected that New Zealand mussels carry a specific type of omega-3 fatty acid which is only found to their aquatic environment. The green lip mussels’ omega-3 acids bear prostaglandins and they were established to be particularly anti-inflammatory, as opposed to such fatty acids as the omega-6 found in other foods.

What does this mean to consumers? Green lip mussels have been finally proven to have a strong level of lipids and omega-3s and have shown direct effect on inflammation and staving off pain in the joints due to inflammation from arthritis and a variety of other ailments.

Green lip mussel extract can be well taken as a supplement pill. All distributors are required to obtain the extract direct from Perna canaliculus.

The extract from green lip mussels is natural and certainly it can cause no harm to the human body, except, of course you are allergic to seafood. Nevertheless, it seems that research preserves the beliefs that it provides health benefits as a health supplement.
